Best dog photography
Here are some examples of the best dog photography images I have taken over the years. This includes some of my Award winning dogs photography with The Guild Of Photographers. I have photographed dogs in a variety of situations. So I have put the photos into sections to make it easier to find what style of dog photography you may be looking for your dogs photo shoot.
Portrait dog photography
Portrait dog photography can be done outdoors or in a pet photography studio. The classic head shot is more my style. Dog portrait photography can be a –
- Standing pose
- Sitting down
- Lying down
- Show dog standing pose
- Head shot
Outdoor dog photography
My most popular dog photography photo shoot is the Outdoor dog photography 1 hour session. Outdoor dog photography really can be done anywhere which is safe the dogs.
- Down the park
- In the woods
- Use a town or city setting for urban shots
- In a field
- Next to water, a stream or river
Action shots
We all love action shots of the dogs and there are so many different types of action dog photography when the dogs is –
- Running
- Working
- Playing
- Swimming
- Treat catching
It’s brilliant to see and photograph the dogs in action, ears flapping with a happy expression. As a dog photographer these images are great to get to surprise the dog owners with.
Working Gundogs
Fieldsports
Field sports photography and photographing dogs working is one of my favourite types of dog photography. I was the offical photographer for the Kennel Club’s working Gundog tests and events for 3 years so I have plenty of experience with the Working Gundogs.
Camera settings for dog photography
Whilst photographing dogs working it is still possible to get the portraits. Understanding which camera settings to use for dog photography is a must, because you usually only get one shot at it when a dog is working.
Event photography
Event dog photography
Photographing dogs at events is hard work but brilliant at the same time. You are under pressure to get the shots required, nearly always overshooting the event with your camera. There is loads of photo editing to be done, with the added pressure of everyone from the event waiting to see the images. Whether your photographing Gundog events, dog shows, agility or even Weddings with dogs, I love event photography it’s great fun.
Event photography website
Using a SmugMug photography website always makes being an event photographer so much easier. A quick and easy way to get all the images from an event online for everyone to view and purchase.

Dog and owner photo shoot
Pet business images
Dog groomers, pet boarding establishments, vets, pet shops to name a few. They all need real life photo’s for their websites and social media pages to promote their pet business. I photographed a busy pet boarding hotel in Spain for images for their website.
Water shots
Creative dog photography
You can create some amazing dog photography when you use water with the dogs. Action shots are great when the dogs are swimming. You will also get some creative dog photography images with the reflections from the water. At most of my outdoor dog photography locations there is water, a river or a stream to use..
Puppies
Puppies are always great fun to photograph, cute, fluffy and full of life. You need to be quick though with your camera as you usually only get one chance at a shot or an idea of a photo you would like to create.
